Easy crochet shrug, Lemon Peel Shrug inspiration
Do you ever find yourself needing something to cover up with but not wanting sleeves, and maybe something that you can just grab in a pinch? Yes, then you are in the right place. This easy crochet shrug pattern sprang into my mind on a breezy summer day when it suddenly started raining and I needed something! Easy to work up, the Lemon Peel Shrug features the lemon peel stitch giving it lots of texture and interest.

Lemon Peel Shrug yarn & materials
To create my easy crochet shrug, I used Chroma Twist Worsted in Narwhal. This was kindly given to me by WeCrochet, as part of the Winter Wonders Blog Hop hosted by Ned & Mimi, Itchin’ for Stitchin’ & HanJan Crochet. This yarn is 70% Superwash Wool and 30% Nylon combo. It comes in 100g, 198yd balls and priced at £11.51 per ball. It’s fluffy, warm and easy to work with. For alternatives readily available in the UK, check out Paintbox Simply Aran – for a solid colour version, or Lionbrand Landscapes – although this a roving yarn so confidence is required!

Body
Start:
Ch 73/77/85/91/99/105/113/119/127
Row 1:
Sc in the second chain from the hook, (sk ch does not count as a st), dc in the next st, [sc in the next st, dc in the next st] repeat across. Turn
Row 2:
Ch1, sc in the same st, dc in the next st, [sc in the next st, dc in the next st], repeat across. Turn
Rows 3 – end:
Repeat row 2 until your piece measures:
10 – 12 ins for sizes XS – M
12 – 16 ins for sizes L – 5X
Tie off and secure your ends.
Join
Fold your piece in half lengthways. Place a marker 4 – 6 inches from the outer edge on each side. You should now have a circular opening in the middle. Join, using the mattress stitch, from the marked stitch to the outer edge on each side.
Collar
Join with a sl-st to the centre of either side of the centre circle, making sure to join in the top of a dc.
Row 1:
Ch1, sc in the same st, dc in the next st, [sc in the next st, dc in the next st] repeat round. Join with a sl-st to the top of the beg sc. Turn
Row 2:
Ch1, sc in the dc, dc in the next sc, [sc in the next st, dc in the next st] repeat round. Join with a sl-st to the top of the beg sc.
Row 3 – end:
Repeat row 2 until your collar is 3 – 4 inches wide. It should curl naturally at the next and on the bust but does not fully close. To make your collar wider – continue the stitch pattern until you reach the required length. You will need more yarn if you adjust the width of your collar.
