Mirror Infinity Scarf inspiration
I love scarves and cowls for autumn and winter and am sort of always on the look out for new ones – they go perfect with my regular jeans and hoodie look. As I was working on the Mirror Stitch Shopper, well actually before, I had a couple of different ideas for scarves using the Mirror Stitch which is featured. This easy free infinity scarf pattern is a sort of one of those ideas and an excuse to try a new to me yarn (shelf shopping win!)
The Mirror Stitch used is an easy beginner repeating stitch pattern that can be easily adapted and works well in a minimum of 2 colours making it perfect for this beginner infinity scarf crochet pattern, and pretty much any stash busting project.
For an alternative beginner scarf pattern, check out the Linen Stitch Scarf.
Easy infinity scarf pattern yarn & materials
To make my easy Mirror Infinity scarf I used Cotton Merino Classic from Hobbii in shades 311 and 101. This is a 50% Wool (Merino) 50% Cotton blend yarn. It comes in 50g 100m / 109yd skeins and is a DK or 3 weight yarn. I used approx 250g to make my easy free infinity scarf – 130g in one colour and 110g in the other.
For alternatives to make your own, any DK or 3 weight yarn will work, Paintbox Simply DK is one of my favourites, or you could try Scheepjes Merino Soft. As this uses such small amounts of yarn you could potentially make this as a scrap project if you plan your colours and are strategic when you are making your easy Mirror Infinity Scarf.
Free Infinity Scarf crochet pattern info & tips
This is an easy free beginner infinity scarf (or cowl) crochet pattern. It uses all beginner or standard stitches and a simple repeating pattern that is easy to count, but be careful when you are placing your stitches as it is easy to miss one.
Gauge isn’t super important, although I would suggest that a looser tension is more preferable as there is some working over stitches that will cause it to bunch up a little.
I used a 5.5mm hook to work my infinity scarf, but I could have gone up to a 6mm happily as I crochet fairly tightly. If you do too, try a 6mm hook to complete your chain and row 1 of the pattern, and then continue with a 5.5mm.
Tip – if you are making a scrap project or concerned about yarn usage – do not cut your yarn at each colour change. Carry it up the side of your work, until you reach the change at row 7. Cut and tie off here and at the change at Row 13 and carry it along the side until you reach the end. You will be seaming your infinity scarf so as long as it is fairly neat it doesn’t matter if you can see the change.
