Free crochet market bag inspiration
I am a hoarder of reusable bags. I generally end up with more stuff than I can fit into the bags that I have and end up buying one. Recently this is mostly veg and fruit for packed lunches and so I decided to make a crochet produce bag pattern out of some random balls from my stash. This would be easy and light to carry pretty much all the time and should stop me buying the ugly faux plastic ones. The hessian ones aren’t big enough.
Going through my stash, I decided to use up some leftover balls of James C Brett 100% Cotton DK to make this crochet produce bag free pattern. I had 3 balls and wanted to use them all up AND have a fairly sturdy but open crochet market bag.

Crochet produce bag pattern yarn and materials
I used 3 balls of James C Brett’s, It’s 100% Cotton DK in the colour IC08. This yarn is 100% cotton, 100g balls at £3.25 per skein. Available in 9 light bright shades this yarn is very easy to work with. A fairly sturdy yarn, I chose to work this crochet market bag pattern with two strands together, this should add some strength to it and also counter the stretch.
Puffin Lace Market Bag pattern info & tips
This crochet market bag pattern is worked by holding two strands of yarn together. Working from the bottom up, you will create the lace pattern in the round making this a seamless crochet produce bag pattern.
There are a few things that may seem counterintuitive when working up this free crochet produce bag pattern – go with it. The pattern is repeated over 4 rounds, use a stitch marker to keep a track of the start/end of rounds.
