Nain Squared – free granny square pattern inspiration
Recently I am obsessed with shapes and granny squares. It’s not that I haven’t always loved granny squares or designed any free easy granny square patterns just I don’t like joining and I prefer projects that take a little longer because I get bored quickly making the same thing over again.
Right now though, granny squares are a thing, and with Granny Square Day approaching I jumped on the opportunity to take part in the Friends with Granny CAL co-hosted by E’Claire Makery and Madame Stitch to design another square and join the celebrations.
Nain Squared yarn & materials
To make my Nain Squared I used Paintbox Simply Aran in Marine Blue, Paper White and . Each square used 30 – 40gs of yarn making this a great stash buster. Paintbox Simply Aran is the house brand acrylic yarn from Lovecrafts and one of the first brands I would say was a ‘favourite’ of mine or one that I am a repeat user of.
Easy to work with and a great range of colours this yarn is perfect for projects that use easy granny square crochet patterns because of its versatility and durability.
Easy free Granny Square pattern info & tips
The Nain Squared free granny square pattern is a beginner crochet project and should be accessible for all levels of skill. I have included the puff stitch in this square design, which adds a little pop of texture, but I think puffs are a great next step and addictive so shouldn’t pose too many problems.
Gauge isn’t super important in this pattern, clean even stitches and a square that lies flat is. Make all the adjustments to your hook size based on your yarn and tension that you need to. This easy granny square pattern would make a great baby blanket worked as multiple motifs, or as part of a collection of similar sized squares so count, and if your square is a little loose go down a hook, if it’s buckling a little go up a hook.
