Thelma crochet shawl pattern inspiration
I, like many shawl lovers, like patterns that have an easy to work up repeat and feature textured stitches. Thelma is a beginner double crochet cluster stitch shawl that works up super quickly, has a great surface texture and drape and is a great introduction to using cluster stitches.
Thelma was designed and is exclusively featured in my book It’s a Wrap. Unlike some of my other designs, I immediately knew what stitches I would use for this double crochet two together crochet pattern as it would be named after Gina Davis’ character in Thelma and Louise.
Nice lady, but gullible or naïve and her life was a car crash throughout that movie. If you know me, then you know I’m a sweary human and actually car crash isn’t the phrase I want to use here but I’m going to keep it clean and say it starts with Cluster. Thelma and Louise were almost inseparable friends until the end and that, plus the car crash life, and this just had to be a double crochet cluster stitch shawl pattern of some kind in my mind.
Love cluster stitches? Check out Belle, a semi circular shawl crochet pattern featuring cluster stitches, or the Key West Pullover, an easy summer pullover crochet pattern also featuring cluster stitches.
Double crochet cluster stitch shawl yarn & materials
To create my Thelma double crochet two together crochet pattern I used a 1250m 4ply cake in the colour Durdle Door from Crochet UK. This cake was wrapped in the block gradient style and I’ve just managed to capture the even block style colour changes in this wrap pattern.

Thelma Wrap pattern info & tips
Thelma is a beginner double crochet cluster stitch pattern. Worked in a similar style to c2c crochet, this design works up quickly with an easy to remember and work up stitch repeat.
While double crochet two togethers or 2 double crochet clusters are commonly used to decrease in crochet patterns, they can also be used as a stitch which creates a slightly textured surface, with one side definitely more decorative than the other.
Easy to adjust, this shawl works to a fairly large size using the pattern as written making it perfect for summer evenings. To reduce the size, use a 1000m cake for a regular sized shawl, or use a 3 or dk weight yarn and approximately 500 – 800m for a scarf.
