Easy square crochet nesting baskets inspiration
I am a stacker of things. Everything has a place, but that usually involves small piles in various places around my house. I also don’t have enough suitable shelves/cupboards and use square nesting baskets all the time around my home. Although I have previously made and designed round baskets, including the Totally Textured Yarn Baskets, I haven’t made any square crochet nesting baskets and was very excited that this idea was accepted by HH Magazine for their Home Decor Issue of Pattern Pack Pro June 2022 so that I could use up some stash and also see if I could bring my idea to life.
Crochet square nesting baskets yarn and materials
To make my square crochet nesting basket pattern I used a favourite, Paintbox Simply Aran from Lovecrafts. While I normally use the cotton versions of this brand, I began using it with acrylic and this is still my go to for that in both dk and aran weight. For this project I raided my stash and used left over balls from a couple of different projects including the On The Bias Pouffe.
This square nesting baskets crochet pattern will work well with any worsted weight yarn.
I try to keep my projects as affordable and grab it out of your stash as possible, but I wasn’t totally able to do that in this square nesting basket project. I also used plastic canvas to help with the structure, and this also makes them more whole house friendly imo.

Square crochet nesting baskets pattern info & tips
This square nesting basket pattern is a beginner friendly, easy to make from your stash, has multiple uses, I mean can you ever have too many nesting baskets.
Worked holding two strands of yarn together for extra strength, this is a great way to use up leftover balls or part balls of yarn. The smallest basket ban be made from only 200g of yarn! Made from the base up, there is no sewing which is a bonus, and the simple pattern created with post stitches makes this an easy win project that works well with your favourite Netflix series!
When making your easy crochet square nesting baskets, you may notice that they buckle a little. This happened to me and is totally fine. I used quite a small hook for the double strands, and I wanted a fairly tight stitch so that the baskets had some integrity without the plastic canvas, but also so that there was quite a closed stitch to the sides and minimal peepage.
For these reasons, gauge is included on the instructions for these easy square crochet nesting baskets BUT it isn’t totally important. Tight close stitches are. If you can flatten out your base by smoothing it over with your hand AND your stitch counts are right – go with it. The rounded corners and slightly small hook are probably the cause.
Included in the square nesting baskets crochet pattern are 3 sizes of basket, giving you the option to make truly unique square crochet nesting baskets and add an accent to your rooms.
