Easy Triangle Shawl Inspiration
The Bellatrix Granny Stitch Triangle Shawl Crochet Pattern is a variation on one of my more popular designs, the Granny Merge Semi. Featuring the granny stitch, this design is a combination of two stitch patterns which create the ‘merge’.
The name for this design is a continuation of a theme of all the designs included in my book, It’s a Wrap. The designs are all named after characters from Actresses I love, this design is named for Helena Bonham Carters, Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter. It’s a little bit tricky, in fact this is the third ‘version’ of this triangle shawl crochet pattern as the first two aren’t the shape I was initially going for!
This easy free triangle shawl also has ‘sister’ designs included in the book – Josephine and Celie, both of which are a variation on the granny merge stitch pattern.
Love the granny merge idea? Check out the Granny Merge Cocoon or the Granny Merge Market Bag patterns for easy alternatives to work up with this timeless crochet stitch pattern.
Granny Stitch Triangle Shawl yarn & materials
To make my Bellatrix I used my usual 4mm crochet hook and 1 x 1000m 4ply gradient yarn cake from Crochet UK in Christchurch. This colour was recommended to me by a friend in a crochet group and I love it. The cake from Crochet UK is 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic blend. To find out more about the cakes available from Crochet UK, check out the review post here.
For alternative yarns from regular stores, 1 x Scheepjes Whirl, Twister, Sultan Deluxe or any similar 2 weight gradient yarn cake would work well.
Bellatrix triangle shawl pattern info & tips
|Bellatrix is a beginner top down triangle shawl crochet pattern. Designed with a simple repeat, this beginner shawl crochet pattern works up quickly using standard crochet stitches.
Gauge, as is normal with my designs, is not important with this beginner crochet granny stitch triangle shawl pattern. Stitch counts are important. While they are not included with this regular repeat, it is important that you are mindful of the hidden stitch in the centre of the row as it is easy to miss AND will mean your shawl will be uneven. It isn’t noticeable when working the solid stitches, but will be once you shift back to the granny stitch repeat section.
This easy granny stitch triangle shawl pattern is finished with a special stitch – the Picot Stitch. The border row is optional, but I think it gives a nice edge or finishing touch, to what is otherwise a fairly simple triangle shawl crochet pattern.
