FREE Mood Shawl Crochet Pattern Inspiration
I experienced so many things in 2023 and one of the things that kept me grounded was crochet. Me time, happy place, all those things. It also gave me time to reflect on things and I wanted to bring some element of that into an easy reflective crochet wrap or shawl pattern project.
The In the Mood Shawl started life as a single triangle shawl crochet pattern, then became two patterns because I prefer crochet wraps or rectangle shawl patterns and then a collaborative mood crochet along project as the idea grew.
Confession time. I like the idea of a crochet temperature shawl, blanket or project but I do not have the staying power for 52 weeks of a single stitch and all those ends! Wanting to be one of the cool kids, but in my own way, is how this free mood shawl crochet pattern began life.
As the idea grew, so did the In The Mood Project, a collaborative crochet along with Cosy Rosie UK. To find out more about the CAL and join check out the blog post here.
In the Mood crochet wrap pattern yarn & materials
To create my In The Mood Wrap as part of the Mood Project CAL I am using Valley Yarn Huntington in 7 Colours! Huntington is 75% Superwash Merino/25% Nylon Blend, 2/fine/fingering weight yarn available from Lovecrafts.
The 7 colours I have chosen correspond to the 7 colours of the Chakra and I am planning to make a striped version during the In The Mood Project CAL 2024, and add multicoloured fringe to the ends with the remaining yarn. Although colours are not specifically a part of this pattern, if you would like to make a multicoloured version of this beginner free mood shawl crochet pattern check out the pinterest board here.
For alternative yarns to create own easy crochet wrap, try Twister Solid for a single colour option, Scheepjes Whirl for a gradient or custom cakes from Crochet UK. While I am not sure totally that a gradient will be the best choice for this design, if it does work well I think it would show up best in this free mood shawl crochet pattern version as you could potentially end up with a fairly even but full of texture gradient throughout your wrap.

How to read and use this pattern.
The In The Mood Wrap is a year long project documenting the moods you experience throughout the year.
Use each stitch pattern to reflect the OVERALL mood of the week.
The pattern contains 7 different stitch patterns – each reflect a broader mood type.
Follow the instructions for each mood to complete the 52 sections of this cal.
For example:
Week one – Happy – use the pattern for the Happy Stitch Section
Week two – Energetic – use the pattern for the Energetic Stitch Section
Each section is an equal number of rows – 4, however the height of the rows will vary.
Please note, the overall size of your wrap WILL vary depending on the moods you experience throughout the year. The total yardage included in the pattern is estimated to include an additional 20% of yarn based on MY gauge.
Each stitch section is clearly labelled with the relevant mood in this easy free mood shawl crochet pattern.
