In the Mood Shawl – inspirations
Confession time. I like the idea of a crochet temperature shawl, blanket or project but I do not have the staying power for 52 weeks of a single stitch and all those ends! Wanting to be one of the cool kids, but in my own way, is how this easy crochet mood shawl pattern began life.
The In the Mood Shawl started life as a single triangle shawl crochet pattern, then became two patterns because I prefer crochet wraps or rectangle shawl patterns and then a collaborative mood crochet along project as the idea grew.
I experienced so many things in 2023 and one of the things that kept me grounded was crochet. Me time, happy place, all those things. It also gave me time to reflect on things and I wanted to bring some element of that into an easy reflective crochet shawl pattern project.
The idea is to use different crochet stitches based on your moods, with or without multiple colours, to create a beginner triangle shawl that is unique and full of texture.
In the Mood Triangle Shawl yarn & materials
To create my easy crochet shawl pattern as part of the In The Mood Project CAL I am using Charlemont by Valley Yarns. Charlemont, comes in 100g, 439yds/420m skeins and is 60% Merino/20%Mulberry Silk/ 20% Polyamide blend. Available in 19 Shades you can find out more about this yarn via the review post here.
For alternative yarns to use when recreating this easy crochet shawl pattern, for solid colours try Twister Solid, Scheepjes Whirl or gradient cakes from Crochet UK. I think single colours will show of the stitches more in this free triangle shawl crochet pattern, but I am willing to be convinced!
Crochet Triangle Mood Shawl pattern info & tips
The In the Mood Triangle shawl is a beginner triangle mood shawl crochet pattern. While this does contain a variety of stitches, there are individual charts, photo and video tutorials available to aid absolute beginners in creating their own unique version of this beginner triangle mood shawl crochet project.
Featuring popcorns, puffs, bobbles and using your own personal moods to determine the finished result of your easy triangle shawl, this pattern is a unique take on a crochet along and a mindfulness or self care routine that celebrates you and crochet.
The In The Mood Triangle Shawl was originally released as a crochet along as part of the In The Mood Project Cal. Tracking your moods and using them creatively being the idea, for the CAL I chose to use a Chakra theme and ‘reassigned’ the stitches to correspond to each chakra. Partly because I am fascinated and want to learn more, but also I am trying to use more colour this year and this was an easy colour scheme to pick for this beginner triangle shawl crochet pattern. To find out more about the CAL, check out the blog post here.
To assign the Chakras I did originally read their meanings and where possible I used my interpretation to match the Chakra’s as closely as I could to the original moods, I have no idea if that has actually worked. I also cannot find the piece of paper I wrote my reasoning down on, however, I am making it and have included the ‘reassigned’ stitches in pdf copy of this beginner triangle mood shawl pattern.
For my Chakra version in Charlemont, I am using the cards that pull every day throughout January and most of February for a total of 52 days to make a version of this beginner crochet shawl pattern.

In the Mood Shawl Tester Thanks
Huge thanks to my testers Lyn & Carmel for helping me with the test for this easy triangle mood shawl design. As we needed to track our moods I asked for small samples, however, Carmel was able to make a full sized shawl as a gift for someone who already tracks their moods!

How to read and use this pattern.
The In The Mood Triangle Shawl is a year long project documenting the moods you experience throughout the year.
Use each stitch pattern to reflect the OVERALL mood of the week.
The pattern contains 7 different stitch patterns – each reflect a broader mood type.
Each stitch pattern / mood is equal to 4 rows
Follow the instructions for each mood to complete the 52 sections of this cal.
For example:
Week One – Happy – use the pattern for the Happy Stitch Section
Week Two – Energetic – use the pattern for the Energetic Stitch Section
Each section is an equal number of rows, although the height of the rows will vary.
Please note, the overall size of your triangle shawl WILL vary depending on the moods you experience throughout the year. The total yardage included in the pattern is estimated to include an additional 20% of yarn based on MY gauge.
Each stitch section is clearly labelled with the relevant mood and include a chart at the bottom for that specific stitch.
All the charts include the starting rows 1 – 2. These are marked and should ONLY be used if you are STARTING your shawl with this section. The rows for each stitch section are numbered 1 – 4 in line with the written pattern for the section.
