Easy Chic Raised Chevron Crochet Pattern – Annie Wrap

Inspiration
I love crochet chevron patterns. Easy to work up once you get a hang of the technique, they are great for adding interest to a pattern creating visual and surface texture.
Annie was designed exclusively to feature in my book It’s a Wrap. As part of the flow of the book I wanted to include an easy crochet chevron pattern that had texture but did not require lots of counting. The Annie raised chevron crochet wrap pattern is the end result. Using post stitches and a simple repeat Annie works up quickly and uses standard crochet stitches to create the zig zig effect.
To continue with the actress naming theme, Annie is named after Diane Keaton’s character in First Wives Club, a bit all over the place but you can’t help loving her once you get to the end. While I like Diane Keaton in a few things, First Wives Club is a favourite with us so it was an easy choice than some of the other designs featured in the book.

Raised Chevron Crochet Pattern yarn & materials
Annie was originally designed as a cowl using 800m of gorgeous fingering weight superwash merino hanks I had from two different providers – All’s Wool That Ends Wool and Botanical Yarn. I miscalculated and didn’t have enough of either the black or the colour of the year fade pack I got from each dyer (respectively). So I combined the two with an irregular colour blocking pattern to create a super cosy infinity scarf or cowl which is included in the book as a bonus pattern.
The Annie easy raised chevron crochet shawl pattern was designed with a 1000m 4ply cake from Crochet UK in the Bi Sexual Pride colourway from the Be Proud Collection that can be found on their website.
To find out more about Crochet UK and the yarn cakes available, check out the review post here. For alternative branded yarns, finer yarn weights will help to ensure your finished piece has both clear stitch definition and a nice drape to the fabric.

Easy chevron shawl pattern info & tips
Annie is a beginner crochet chevron pattern which uses increases and decreases to create the zig zag effect. Post stitches are used to create the ribbed surface texture in a short repeating pattern which emulates the stitches in the flatter surface area allowing the raised edges to stand out more.
Quick to work up, this design grows quickly and is easy to adapt. For a larger shawl my advice would be to increase your yardage, rather than using a thicker weight of yarn. There is a definite right and wrong side to this zig zag crochet pattern and short bursts of the fabric can feel dense and stiff if too thick a yarn or too small a hook are used.
